19 satisfactory Md very ounonf,Sherman's Djsafpoirtment.—Lieuten-9Qt General Sherman has been greviously disappointed. He bad made ail bis arrangement* for a very agreeable pleasure trip up the Mediterranean, and hoped to visit the Holy Land, and see places in Asi-i and Europe historically interesting. The War Department granted him leave of absence, and everything seemed promising for a summer of enjoyment, but ill lack, in the shape of ugly Indians, has interfered, and rendered it prudent for one who holds a distinguished command, such aa he enjoys, to be on the spot, ready for all emergencies. He, therefore, relinquisheshie proposed excursion, and instead of atudying the habits of the dancing Dervishes, at Constantinople, will be obeer-vient of the lest interesting antic* of the vrifd Indians. He cannot even repair to New York and participate in tho ceremonies of a public dinner, which bus beentendered him. His home will be in the saddle and his headquarters on the wild prairies. It is no doubt somewhat of a disappointment to the General. But he belongs to that school of practical philosopher!, who are trained to the endurance of all sorts of disasters, end who never feel assursd of suoooss, without being equally prepared to encounter failure.
