chandizing, with the late John Austin, and afterward became one of the largest operators in pork in Southern Indiana, in which business he was more than usually successful. For many years he was connected with the banking institutions in this city, and to his counsels and advice may be attributed much of the success which attended theiroperations.As a business ipan and citizen, he was highly esteemed by the entire community. He was an enterprising citizen, and labored for many years of hi life to promote the material Interests of the city of his adoption, having promoted and given material aid to the Iron and glass interests of New Albany. He was a genial, social, high-toned gentleman, who always commanded a large influence in the circle in which he moved. He spent a greater part of his iife in the MethodiBt Church, of which he was for many jears an honored member. He was a man strong in his convictions, no matter whether in political or social affairs, and discharged hla duties to his fellow citizens and his country in a conscien^ scious manner, although yielding to'all men their inherent right to enjoy their privileges on equal terms with himself. In big intercourse with his fellow citizens, he always displayed those characteristics of a Christian, in which the cause he espoused they are an especial charm. To the poor, he was charitable, to the widow and those in distress he was active in mitigating their sufferings, and his memory will be enshrinedin many hearts.The family of Mr. McDonald consisted ofa number of sons and daughters, all of whom arrived at the years of maturity, although we believe bat three children survive him. These have the profound sympathy of a large circle of friends in their irreparable loss, and especially will the widow of our deceased fellow-citizen be held in kindly remembrance in her affliction by hundreds of warm and sympathising friends.Mr. McDonald was in the 69th year of his age, having been born In 1808. The day and hour of the funeral will be hereafter announced.
