SFC Daryle L. Whitacre, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Whitacre. Sebring, Fla., formerly of Ridgeiey. has received the Army Commendation Medal for “outstanding conduct of duty” while assigned as supply sergeant for the Department of Military Science and Tactics at Wichita (Kans.) State University, presented by Lt. Col. Haul Vader. Sgt. Whitacre is a 1963 graduate of Fort Ashby High School who entered the Army in January of 19fcl. Following basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky„ he made a tour in West Germany, followed by four and a half years in Vietnam, interrupted only by some leave time in the United States. He also completed a three-year tour in Athens, Greece. Decorations include the Bronze Star, the Soldier's Medal — the Army’s highest peacetime honor for heroism in peace time — five Good Conduct Medals and numerous campaign ribbons. He and his wife, the former Mary Jo Schroeder. of Hubbard, Neb., leave June 24 to start a three-year tour in Yokohama, Japan, where he will be assigned to the Military Traffic Command Terminal at Yokohama Docks.
