By, the death of John V. Quacken-lt;bush, who died Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at his home, on OrchardSt., this community sustains a realloss and the town loses one of itsioldest and foremost citizens. While this has been his home for a numberof years, his large and varied business interests kept him away for monthsat a time. At the age of 17 years he•went to California and Australia to*mine for gold. He was absent aboutfive years and upon his return fromthe latter place worked his -passagehome on a sailing vessel as a commonsailor. Upon his arrival and during:his early manhood, he was engaged invarious mercantile pursuits, and aboutthe year 1873 he formed a partnershipwith Gol.
