Brave Indiana Soldiers Rewarded* |We announced some time since that Genera! j Birney,of the *.hird division, fifth corps of the f Army of the Potomac, had prepared a decoration to be called the ‘'Kearney Medalin commemoration of the brave former commander of the division, to be presented to those soldiers who should distinguish themselves in the ensuing battles. The design is a pure Maltese cross, bearing a ring with the inscription, “Dulce et Decorum est pro patria mori. At the intersection of the cross is the simple name of “Kearney.” Thismedal is suspended by a broad ribbon from an exquisite chased pin by which the whole is attached to the left breast ot the wearer’s coat. The in-scriotion ring on the cross is of gojd, inlaid with jet, in which the lettering appears in gold. The workmanship Ib exquisite throughout, forming a really beautiful decoration.A* large number of the medals have recently been distributed. The only Western soldiers embraced in the command are from Michigan andIndiana. The following are the recipients of the honor from the latter State.
