Navy,1 effective officially in mid-May, Chief Leary is a veteran of 16 ■ years service. Half of his life has been spent in military service. During his years of service he has been to virtually every state in the union. He has visited Canada on several occasions, though not connected with his duties, and has been to Bermuda. During World War II, the chiefs duties took him to Germany, France, Austria, England, Switzerland and Russia. He was stationed in Vienna. Austria, during most of his time overseas.Chief Leary has been awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal.! first, second, third and fourth awards, the Army Good Conduct Medal, first award, 10 years service medal, Armed Forces Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, European-African Middle Eastern ^ Area Campaign Medal and the Korean Service Medal.Chief Leary is also authorized to wear gold rating badges and gold service stripes, by virtue of his having been awarded at least four good conduct awards and his high proficiency marks.In four years the young chief will be eligible to retire after 20 years service, at the age of 37. Chief Leary feels that this is too young an age to retire, and is looking forward to at least 10 more years of service with the Navy.Chief Leary resides at 442 Birch j Avenue, Cornwells Heights, with his wife, Elizabeth, and two daughters, Linda Joy, 19 months and Tina Marie, 6 months.
