WORE MAIL’ PLEAIN NORTH AFRICABut Spirits Are High Now,Says Sgt, C, L, Rothwell of Huntsvillea-More ma.il from home” is the plea of soldiers in North Africa, says a letter from Sgt, Charles L. Rothwell, new on duty there. “It's been so long since most of us had any mail from home I heard some of the boys say they were going toWar Department and see if the the folks back home were still alive. A few letters this week is all the mail we have received for some time.”“Everybody has been in pretty high spirits the last few'days.for ti looks like the war in North Africa will soon come to a close (his. letter was written May We are now wondering when where we will next move, are teling the story of the ing Italian prisoner. When what he was laughing about, said: “I've got it on you. “I'm to America, while you've go to Italy/“This is a nice looking piece o? country through this part of North Africa. Everything is green. The wheat, barley and oats have headed and I have even seen some Arabs cutting oats. Talk about poppies! I don’t know if they are planted or just grow wild. They are in bloom and I have seen whole fields of them. In some places they are so thick they remind me of the dandelions back home and are probably considered here as we consider the dandelion.“I think some Arab helped himself to my fountain pen and a few other things a- few days ago. The pen was a cheap one I had brought from, the States but I miss it like everything”Sgt. Rothwell is the son of Mr. and Mrs, Charlie Rothwell of Huntsville.
