MONUMENT EOR STONEWALL JACKSON.Charleston, W. Va., May 28. —In a few days ground will be broken in the Capitol lawn for the foundation of the pedestal upon which will rest the statute of General Stonewall Jackson which will be erected by the Charleston Chapter of the Daughters of the confederacy-Already the big bronze statute ol General -Jackson, which is nine feet in height, has been shipped from Italy where it was cast.The monument will be built on the right front of the lawn in Capitol square and the base will be constructed of Italian marble. Upon shaft will be placed the statute of the confederate General whose home was in West Virginia and whose fame and millitary man is known and his ability recognized the world overGovernor Glasscock has announced that the Board of Pub- ' lie Works has decided on a site for the statute to be erected on the state’s property.The bronze cast of the statute was made in Italy by sir Moses Ezekial of Richmond- Va., who was a student at the Virginia Military institute, the ‘‘West Point of the South,” at the same time that Stonewall Jackson was there and with his accurate recollection of the man he knew so intimately has fashioned a likeness of the soldier that is wonderful, in its accuracy of thedelineation of General Jacksons features.Narrow Escape at an Oil Well.Salem, W. Va. May 28. —Rufus Chandler, of Coal Run, Ohio, had a narrow escape from death this morning when a large oil well boiler owned by Patterson Bickel, of Parkersburg, and located on the Cain farm, five miles west of here, exploded. The explosion shook the earth and was heard for miles around. Chandler had fired the boiler, walked into the derrick and run the bailer once, when the explosion happened. Flying missies went in every direction, but he escaped without a scratch.^ . —Found Brother After Many Years.Beckley, May 28.-After searching throughout the union for the past twenty years. Miss E. M. Hurley, of Santa Barbara, California located her brother, Peter J. Hurley, in Beckley and arrived here last week in search of him- On her arrival as she came direct from the railroad station to Hotel Fisher, she saw a man standing in front of the postoflice on Heber t street, whom she recognized as her long lost brother. She did not make her identity known at the time, but hurried at once to the hotel. Later she made the object of her search known and a friend of Hurley brought him to the hotel, where there was a
