RobertZirkle, pilot of the Army Air Forces, I and Major J. E. Mollenkopf, cngi-! neer, who saw service in 1917-18, Lieut. Zirkle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Zirkle of York Township, is home on furlough after 50 missions over enemy territory In the Mediterranean war zone. He spoke of personal experiences while pilotin a P-38 and told of his “luck’* bagging a German plane by hitting it with an extra gas tank he dropped from his plane.The pilot cited superstitions of the airmen, one the 23rd mission and the 44th mission as the tough ores. He said he was mighty glad when he landed after his 44th trip, Lieut. Zirkle is wearer of the Distinguished Flying Cross.Major Mollenkopf, who ha* been I engaged in construction of the land-ing boats at Evansville, Ind., ex-1 plained the operations and durability of thr■ boats widen me being used by the Allies at invasion points.
