Auxiliary Erma BettsErma Betts,WAAC, HereOn FurloughAuxiliary First Class Erma Betts of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Command, stationed atSouthwark, Philadelphia. Pa., who Is here on a ten day furlough, the guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Betts, 15 Morris Ave , is recreational instructor in swimming and tennis for the company of WAACs, attached to the 604 Coast Artillery,Members of the 63rd WAACS OPNS Anti-Aircraft Artillerycommand, assigned to this station do clerical work, replacing soldiers in the offices, and duties connected with the filter board work of the Atlantic Coast.Auxiliary Betts is in the Intelligence, Plans and Training Office and carries out a full program of physical education training and instructors at the hours allotted to sport.The WAACs live in barracks,constructed since their arrival in March. They swim in the pool at Southwark Station Park.Courtesies extended to soldiers in Philadelphia and New York are enjoyed by the WAACs who frequently go to New York on their free days, seeing shows and art exhibits. A full day’s program at the station, novvever, prevents much leisure time during their active duty periods of the week.Auxiliary Betts underwent four weeks basic training and six weeks administration training at Daytona Beach preparing her for the office work which she is now doing.The one stripe of first class auxiliary was awarded Miss Betts in promotion, received just before her furlough.Prior to enlisting, Auxiliary Betts was for several years assistant bookkeeper of the Athens Home Telephone Company. She spent one winter at Sarasota Fla, as accountant at the Lido and returning to Athens was NY A youth councillor here until leaving for Daytona Beach, Dec. 4.(
