Thomas S. Lacy, son of Palmer E. Lacy of Lebanon Springs, N.Y., and Mrs. Lucy Manzolini of 27 South Onota St., who is stationed in Binh Thuy, Vietnam.A story on Lacy's request was read by Andrew ft. Nylic of Narragansett who yesterday gave the mayor the special flag to send to Vietnam.According to Nylic, the flag was fashioned by a gilds’ group in the Boston area and was taken to Korea by the first group of Massachusetts Marine Corps Reserve members called up during the conflict in 1950.Nylic Tells StoryNylic said, “I would dare say that the flag rates a star for every major battle and some of the smaller ones in Korea thatthe Marine Corps participated in. It has tasted salt water and lt;fresh wafer. It’s been in a fox 1 hole and seen the inside of a : bunker. It’s been buried in the t snow and soaked in the mud of J Korea. That is why, condition- ( wise, it may not be the nicest t flag around, but I bet it's the proudest.”Nylic said the flag was passed down among state soldiers during the Korean Conflict and was 1 brought home by him in Decem- ( bcr of 1953. It is autographed by several of the soldiers who flew i it in Korea. iThe flag has been on display j in the mayor’s office since yes- 1 terday.
