EARL FOLKERS WRITES FROM CAMP BARKELEY, TEXAS, ENJOYS THE ARMY LIFECamp Berkeley, Texas, Co. L. 857th Inf., May 28.—Dear George and!World-Journal:—Well this might be quite a surprise to you, but I just I thought you might like to'receive a I line or two. Outside of wind and I dust storms we have a real nice camp I here. They come and go all the time. We really do get’ some reall 'good training. Ordinarily we have! regular days from about 6 in the j morning till 6 at night, but when we go on the rifle range it is from 5 till sometimes 9:00. We have a real nice set of officers and they treat us on I the “up and up” most of the time.We have been stressing rifle drill most of the time lately and are about] to go into the bayonet drill, which is | going to be pretty hard work and also I a little more complicated, |The weather is quite warm here] now in daytime, but it eools off in the evening. That makes it good sleeping and that's half of it. We havfc had some good showers of rain! occasionally which are always wel-i come, as. they settle the dust. j So far I like the army fine; like] my work and enjoy myself in the spare time, Have some real nice bud-1 dies and get along with them swell. | I have a Kothenbeutel boy from] Hampton in my barracks, and a) couple of other fellows from Iowa I and two from Minnesota. I ,We are about ten miles from town,] that is, Abilene, Texas. It is a good] sized town and ip quite nice. But we I do not go there very often as we do I not have very much to do there. We can get Just about everything we need here in camp. It's about time to “hit the bed” so will close. Hoping you will be glad i to hear from “just another Boldier,”Yours truly, Earl Fojkera.11 ...
