Sketch Of VeteranJacob Abraham Howell was born March 13.' 1837 in Wilcox County, Mississippi; moved to Jasper County at nine years of gge. At twentv-two years of age he enlisted in the confederate army, served three years and nine months in Wallthall’s brigade, twenty-seventh Mississippi regiment, company H. Ed Stafford, Captain. Took part in all battles from Perryville. Kentucky to Greensboro, N. C. Uncle Abe says that he never •aw a yankee who could out run him and he can prove this by his order sergeant, John A. Morgan. Was surrendered at Greensboro. N. C. May 27, 18(15. As men were scarce at that time he could take his choice of all the girls and married a widow with two children.
