John S. Varley, of Chicago, withdrew from the race for the office of department commander after the first ballot, when he found he had but 84 votes, M, H. Peters, of Watseka, 184, and Major Connolly 240. The latter was made the unanimous choice after the second ballot, and Major Peters escorted him to the platform to be installed. 'Wilson,Peoria.Senior vice president—Mrs. Emma Morris, Rock Island.-Junior vice president—Julia Welsh, Joliet.Mrs. Ella V. Work, of Chicago, was defeated for the department presidency of the Woman's Relief Corps by Mrs. Anna M. Patterson, of Mat-toon, 250 to 238.
