OF Erie Strong Vincent High School I know practically nothing- but the name Strong Vincent is an unusual one, so the school must have been named tor Strong Vincent, a northern officer, young and very popular with his men, who fell at Little Hound Top. on July 2, 1863, the second day of the battle of Gettysburg.And reading about Erie's winning high school team, brought back in a flash the mental picture of a statue standing on that slope of Little Round Top which faces Big Round Top, the statue of a young officer charging with gun in hand, his face set toward the Confederate line. The statue marks the spot where Strong Vincent died.
