St. Clair Strcct.t's 33th AAF. participated recently In- the first daylight aerial assault by land-based bombers against the key Japanese air and naval base of Yap. 300 miles southeast of Palau between •the • Philippines and. the Marianagroup.Smashing the enemy airfield, where Japanese aircraft are RUiged enroute to Guam, U. S. big Liberators destroyed I enemy aircraft on the ground rind damaged ten. Fires were observed burning four hours after the attack. ‘Lieut. Barr's navigator was Second Lieutcnmft Edward C. Hoey of Naugatuck, Conn.; his bombardier was Second Lieutenant Edmund A. Zuchlkc of Rochester. Minnesota, and Second Lieutenant Richard H. Snider of Louisville.
