Selective Service Positicr:In anticipation of entering the military service, Mr. Growden, a few weeks ago, resigned as chairman cf the Selective Service Board for the Fairbanks district, and Hosea H. Ross was appointed to the position.ftMr. Growden will re-enter the Signal Corps of the United States Army from which, after 20 years of service.. he resigned in November 1934. when as a resident of Ruby he was elected a representative in the Territorial legislative. He was a sergeant at the time of his resignation from the Signal Corps.After serving a single term in the Legislature, he moved to Fairbanks and was appointed United States Commissioner.Third Term As Mayorl 'He is now serving his third term as Mayor. Previously he served four years in the City Council.He was made director of CivilianDefense and chairman of the Civi-■lian Selective Service Board when• those agencies were created last year.Mr. Growden refrained .today from dVicuasing particulars xe- ‘garding his forthcoming connectionwith the Signal Corps or the place in the States to which he will re-*port for duty. '“My voluntary offer to rejoin the%Signal Corps has beefc accepted bythe War Department,” he declaredtoday.‘“I shall report for duty next imonth. I expect that I shall be here ifor about 15 days, spending the ' ■time in winding up personal mat- i ters” 1“Mrs. Griwden and our four sons will continue to make their home in Fairbanks. All our sons were born in J Alaska.”
