Frank Cereceres, the local recruiter, invites everyone to enjoy free refreshments and obtain more information about AirForce life and opportunities.The 10-year Air Force veteran has been a recruiter for three years and was previously assigned to El Paso. He also serves Cloudcroft, Tularosa,surrounding com-Ruidoso munities. The bulkandofrecruiter’s day isdevoted to advertising the Air Force as “a great way of life,” he said. This includes media advertising, mailing literature, telephone contacts and interviews with persons in the office, at local high schools and colleges.Sergeant Cereceres talks primarily with young people interested in enlistment or officers training school. However, his work also brings him into contact with parents, whom he finds very supportive. ‘‘Parents realize the opportunities the military has foryoung people.” he said.Once initial contact with the prospective recruit Is made, an interview is arranged. During this time, the recruiter and the prospect will begin paperwork which includes familyhistory, health and educational background and law violations. The person is then scheduled to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test to determine job qualification. At the same time, the recruiter runs a police check to ensurethat the candidate meets the service’smoral standards.Once all qualifications have been met, the recruiter and the individual keep in touch until basic training to make sure the person’s status has not changed. The goal is to recruit two to three persons a month, the sergeant said.‘‘It’s an exciting job, and it’s a challenge. You are always on the go, talking to people about the Air Force and technical and educational opportunities it provides.
