Relic of a Prehistoric Time.Baeaboo, Wis., Joly 24,—Within the boundary lines of Sauk County , at various times since its earliest settlement, many curiosities have been unearthed, giving birth to much speculation relative to the pre-hi6toric settlecnent of this country, Prom various mounds have been taken bones of an extinct race, weapons of warfare and antique pottery ^ besides much other trumpery of ancient origin, _ the evident belongings of a peculiar people. The bones and skulls recently exhumed at Beedsborg excite a curious interest all over the state, and new discoveries of a like nature will claim public attention farand near.;• Something Intensely puzzling was brought to light recently, m Peltunr on the farm of.Sidney K. Ayera. A few weeks ago, while his son was plowing on one of his historical mounds, which, before being disturbed by cultivation, resembled the form of a deer, the plow struck against an obstruction, which was at first supposed to b* a huge rock. When the impediment was pried , out they were astonished by the discovery of what to all appearances, is the petrified body of a human being. Both arins and lower limbs are .missing . but the head and shoulders are perfectly defined, except where the left shoulder and the side of the face has been broken. v The outlines of the face are almost distinguishable. - Search will be made at once for the broken parts. The body was lying on the leltsiae, with the head bent back and nearly resting on the shoulder. /The discovery is creating a lively . interest. Saak (joqnty is noted for its mounds of all descripr tions, but little has been done in the. way of unearthing their contents.
