Green, who gave his life for America, was giv-en the Bronze star medal, posthumously, this week, for bravery and valor in a naval battle in the Pacific.His parents Mr. and Mrs. Jess Green of Fame received the citation arid medal this week.The citation was as follows:“For heroic achievement as a member of a 40-mm. quadruple gun mount crew, serving aboard a U. S. vessel when the ship was subjected to a continuous enemy bombardment off Luzon Island in the Philippines, January 5 and 6, 1945. Fearless and cool when oneof the Japanese suicide planesplunged down on his seriously crippled vessel January 6, Green gallantly remained at his battle station, maintaining steady fire at the approaching craft until itcrashed against the starboard side of thevship near his position.“Mortally wounded in the terrific explosion which followed, Green by his determined fighting spirit and outstanding technical skill,had contributed essentially to the defense of his ship throughout the hazardous two-day engagement and his -unfaltering devotion to duty during a period of strain and peril was, in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.“He gallantly gave his life for his country.’'A brother of the deceased sailor,Pvt.
