LAFB student pilot okay following airplane crashA Laughlin Air Force Base student pilot was listed in stable condition this morning at the base hospital following treatment for injuries he suffered when his T-38 jet crashed near Loma Alta early Thursday afternoon.Capt. Mark C. Allee, 27, of Coventry, Conn., bailed out of the jet about 45 miles north of Del Rio at 12:10 p.m. Thursday. Allee was on a solo training flight at the time of the crash, LAFB public affairs officials said.A U.S. Border Patrol aircraft located Allee and the crash site between 1 and 1:30 p.m., said John Green, deputy chief patrol agent for the Border Patrol.A Border Patrol helicopter picked up Allee after he ejected and flew him to the Laughlin hospital. He remains in the hospital for routine observation.A board of officers will investigate the accident, LAFB officials said.The crash is the second involving a Laughlin student and a T-38 aircraft this year.The first crash occurred April 5 when an instructor pilot and his student were killed when their T-38 went down about 30 miles north of LAFB.
