D. S, C. FOR LOCAL NKAtf3Lt- August Eigenauer Receives Awafafor BraveryThe Distinguished Service Cross bps been awarded to Lieutenant John EL L Eigenauer, son of August Eigenauenf, 2630 Cabot street. The award i«fmade for unusual bravery, he having routed 'several German machine fun-r nera. The citation tells how Eigfp-s auer, then a first sergeant, led his platoon ILrough avy fire and finely gained his objective after cleaning out many machine gun nests.Lieutenant Eigenauer enlisted at the beginning of hostilities, when just 20 years old. He went to Camp Greene, where he soon was promoted to the post of sergeant. During an engage* ment all of his officers were wounded and Eigenauer Was left in command. His leadership was so successful that he was commissioned a second lieutenant. He was wounded twice. The first wound was received in the early part of the war.
