First WAAC to LandWas Unit’s Top KickWAAC REPLACEMENT DEPOT, England, July 19—First. WAAC off the transport to set foot on British soil was l/Sgt. Virginia “Rosie*’ Rosekrans, of Chicago, who holds the disputed title of first topkick made in the WAAC. She received her six stripes and diamond about the sametime as 1/Sgt. Elaine Olmstead, ofPhoenix, Ariz., now in North Africa. Exclaimed a sergeant on duty at the quayside after watching Rosie fall in her company and bark out commands: “She sounds like a topkick, acts like one and looks like she knows her stuff, but hell— she's a woman! ”
