gyThc Eric Gazette, in speaking of the death of Gen. Strong Vincent, of Erie, who fell while leading his brigade and favorite regiment, (the83d Pa.) at the battle of Gettysburg, pays the following tribute to his memory:“The untimely death of General Vincent—wecall him General, because he was made such before1 his death—has created a profound sensation in this entire community. Ilis patriotic dev otion to his country, not less than his manly qualities of heart, had endeared him to all who knew him. His abilities and bravery, demonstrated on many battle-fields, gave him a reputation ofwhich not his relatives alone, but the citizens of Erie County could well feel proud. The testimonials from his own favorite brigade, (‘specially, warrant us in saying that the memory of his noble traits will be cherished not less reverently than that of the courage and talents which gav e him distinction as a soldier. *llis death shall be the inspiration of the* living who, like him, tread steadily the paths of patriotism and honor that point the way to imperishable renown.* 'r
