Indiana Volunteers, in the engagement at Gettysburg, Penn., yesterday, July 1st. Our Brigade (1st of 1st Division, in 1st Corps) , opened the engagement on the left 'by charging across a wheat field down a hill into a wooded ravine,• where we captured near 600 rebels, j ■ breaking their entire line. Two hours afterward they massed three j lines on our left flank and front,! and forced us to fall back. Herebi we sustained our main loss. We (were attacked by four tiir.es our: number, but the “old 19th” and the ! gallant Iron Brigade, stoGd until ; two-thirds of our number were cut down, when we fell back a secondtime, tinder cover of a hurriedlv'constructed line of rail breastworks, where we remained till there was not a Corporal’s Guard left.I The casualties of Co.
