—Mr. Fred Schnittger, of Franklin Mills, was a caller at The Gazette office today. Mr. Schnittger is an old soldiei aud one of the stalwart democrats of Des Moines county. He served through the civil war and spent seven months in Andersonville prison. In one engagement he was permanently crippled by being thrown from his horse and break ing his right shoulder. Nine weeks ago he was leading a horse from the barn when the animal reared up and fell back on him, pinning him to the door post, breaking his collar bone and opening up the old wound. The arm stiffened and is now practically u-eless. Mr. S hnitt ger’s numerous friends will be sorry to hear of his injury.
