Wade, Filling: Station Proprietor, Frustrates Early Monday Morning: Robbery“Hey. you can’t do that!”This is probably what the would-be robber thought when the table was turned early Monday morning and the filling station owner held up” the holdup man.It all happened when C. W. Wade, proprietor of a filling station in the western part of Rockdale, heard a noise about 3:30 a. m. Monday. And after finding a man in the act of robbing his filling station he held him at bay with a shot gun until officers arrived.The bold but indiscreet bad man gave his name as Ernest E. Perry, of Iowa, and carried papers showing a dishonorable discharge from the United States army in 1920. His bond was fixed at $1000 by L. H. Hillver, justice of the peace, when he waived examining trial here Monday.When Wade arrived on the scene with his shotgun, Perry had his loot which includedJapanese and Chinese Gods; Elephants. Water Buffalo, Monkeys: trays and curios—all carved from solid ivory and teak wood; brilliant chinaware and table linen from Japan! It’s like a trip to the Orient to view the display owned by Mr. and Mrs. A. Longmire, of Rockdale, which has been sent to them by their son. Tracy, now in Japan with the U. S. Navy.Two tables in the Longmire home are heavily burdened with a valuable mass of the strange yet wonderful curios and articles from the Orient. Included in the display one will find a large God. made of Chinaware; Chinese Gods hand ( carved from black and brown teak | wood; elephants, water buffalo, the See-no-Evil. Hear-no-Evil. Speak-r.o-Evil Monkeys, all carved frcm ivory and teak wood; black wood trays; ivory curios; an ebony, amber and gold ink well and pen; two sets of chinaware. one in dragon design; and fine table linen. Japenese pajamas. Smocks, a leather dragon purse—and what have you. Not to mention a group of Japanese hand i paintings on parchment.The gifts have been sent to the Longmire family by Tracy Longmire during his voyages in all parts of the world the past few years. As a sailor in the Navy, Lonmire has been in the service since before the start oi the World War. and according to his father, has only about four more years before retirement.
