Tank Explosion InjuresHOHENFELS, Germany (SS) — An explosion inside a tank here injured three 3rd Armd Div soldiers, one critically, a Spearhead spokesman said Friday.The accident occurred Thursday afternoon, it was reported, while Sgt. Bobby L. Hack worth, C Co, 3rd Bn, 33rd Armor, Gelnhausen, was testing the M60 tank’s wiring system. A live wire apparently detonated a main gun round inside the vehicle.Hackworth lost his left hand and suffered a broken leg and severe burns over 70 per cent of his body, the spokesman said. The NCO was rushed to the 130th Army General Hospital in Nuernberg and waslater air evacuated to the Army Burn Center at Ft. Sam Houston, Tex., where he was listed in critical condition.The two other crewmen inside the tank at the time of the blast were Sgt, Toney E. Eggers and Pfc. John A. Smith, also of C Co They were in satisfactory condition at the 130th Hospital.
