Service Officer of Legion To As-( sist Men In Adjusting Compensation ClaimsJ. V. Blackard. executive clerk of the Soldiers’ Relief Commission, ancj. acting Btate service officer of the American Legion, will spend three days In Sequoyah county, adjusting claims of ex-service men, according to W. A. Peters, district commander of the American Legion.He will be in Vlan on Friday, July 10. On Saturday, July 11, He will be in Sallisaw, at the American Legion hall. On Sunday, July 12, he will be at Mtlldrow. It is anticipated that by giving these three days to service in this county, it will be possible for aUex-service men desiring information and assistance to Interview Mr. Black-ard. It is his purpose to take up any and all types of service work.A county-wide rally of ex-service men will be held in the American Legion hall on Saturday night, July 11, which will be addressed by Mr. Blackard. This meeting is open to any and all ex-service men, regardless of whether they are Legion members or not.According to District Commander Peters, plans are going forward for the district convention of the Legion, to be held on the 15th at Wagoner, and it appears that this will be an unusually good convention. The entertainment included a fish fry and a dance. The Legionaires are expected to arrive at noon on the 14th for registration. There Vrill be swimming at the city park In the afternoon, and entertainment at the theatre in the evening, topped off with a dance at the Legion pavilion. On the 15th, the convention will be called to order at 9:30. A business session will be held at 1:30. At five o’clock there will be swimming at the city park, and the whole convention climaxes with a fish fry at seven o’clock at the national guard armory.At the meeting of the Legion post Friday night of this week, tftie delegates will be elected to attend the districtconvention at Wagoner.Arrangements are being made to get Johnnie Gulager and Martin Tew, of Muskogee, to attend the Legion meeting tomorrow night. Johnnie is a cousin of Will Rogers, and has learned a few good tricks with the rope himself. and can put on a good show.This paper was in error last week In stating that W. A. Peters is commander of Carnie Welch Post No. 27 of the American Legion. The post commander is C. B. Haraway. Mr. Peters is district commander of the second district. o-Mrs. Joe Knowles and children of Seminole visited for a few days this week with friends, here.
