Pershing, general of the armies of the United States.Stubby, a Boston bull terrier, wearer of three service stripes and a wound iitripe, was decorated by Pershing yesterday.Staging the ceremony in his pri-vale office, Gen. Pershing attached a Kold medal to Stubby's collar. After the general had spoken a few words ou the theme of man’s best friend, in^ peace or war. Stubby acknowledged the honor with a graceful bark and u wagging tail.4*Stubby was the mascot of the 26th (New England 1 division. Participating in all engagements, lie suffered a shrapnel wound at the battle of Seichopre.v. When lie was taken to a hospital, he received all the medical and surgical attention available. He recovered.Evidently wishing to celebrate Itis release from the hospital. Stubby disappeared until after the battle of St. Allhiel. Then a doughboy disoov. ered him in charge of a French sol-dier. After an argument that nearly onded in a light, the dog was returned to the American ranks.'Stubby is now the property of J. Robert Con troy of X,.w Haven.
