Janie M. Eddins, daughter of Ida Winston of Chicago Heights, has been promoted to first lieutenant in the United States Army.She received an Army Achievement Medal for being the officer in charge of three companies for the security force at Tompkins Barracks, Schwetzingen, Germany during Operation Desert Storm.The soldier is a platoon leader for a topographic engineer platoon.Eddins is a 1981 graduate of Rich Central High School, Olympia Fields, and received a bachelor of science degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
