Goings Awarded Bronze Star Medal—i—i i.i n«i. —^Technical Sargent John W Go-j ings of Route 2, Mount Airy, ha* been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for bravery while in action wtih the 29th Infantry Division near Brent. France The decora.! tion wax presented at a United* State* Army Reinforcement Depot in England where Sgt. Going* has been nerving as an instructor at the Infantry Training School.‘Our platoon wan held up by an ei emy machine gun nest*' Sgt Oo-1 ings said. “I was able to crawl to within about 26 yards of the tier-’ man* and wa* lucky enough to get! all four of them with my tint• grenade.” 11)* Mount Airy Infantryman was under fire from tht* machine gun nest all during his advance. 1 • Ifie was later wounded by a ma| chine gun bullet while fighting in Hafcewilder, Germany. After hospitalisation he who sent to England to become u memlter of the training cadre at this depot.
