Going* •f Route 2, Mount Airy, hits been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for bravery while in action wtih the 2i*th Infantry Division near Brest, Prance. The decoration was presented at r* IJnitedn* States Army Reinforcement Depot in England where Sgt. Goings ha# been serving «« an instructor at the Infantry Training School.‘Our platoon was held up by an eremy machine gun nest” Sgt. Goings said. “I was able to crawl to ... within about 2f» yards of the Ger I- mans and was lucky enough to get . it all four of them with my first | grenade.” The Mount Airy Infantryman was under fire from this machine gun nest all during his advance. * •He was later wounded by a ma | chine gun bullet while fight mg in j \ Ma/.ewilder, Germany.
