Guard Unit Best Overall At Summer EncampmentMembers of the local National Guard Unit, 2nd Automatic Weapons Battalion, received the best overall award for the best battery participating in the two weeks of summer camp held at Ft. Bliss June 16-30. The unit also received the best maintenance award.The T or C battery is one of fourmaking up the 530 men of the New Mexico Army National Guard 2nd Automatic Weapons Battalion Each of the batteries participated in tactical field problems and live-fire exercises during this annual two week training period The 2nd Battalion is made up of Guard Units from Las Cruces, Silver City. Lordsburg. Deming, T or C. Alamogordo and Artesia Highlighting camp this year were ceremonies honoring Command Sergeant Major Oscar Salars of the Deming-Silver City area who is scheduled to retire soon after 35 years of service. He is the highest ranking enlisted man in New Mexico’s Army National Guard
