JOHN E. GERARD CIVIL WAR VETERAN DEAD, AT 84In the death of John E. Gerard our community loses ono of its oldest settlers. He was born in Ohio in and came to Indiana before the Civil War. He enlisted a,nd served in the 10th Indiana Light Artillery, until he was honorably discharged. After the war was over he settled in this county and continued to reside here until his death- Mr. Gerard was a thrifty, prosperous farmer during his active years. He retired in 1898, bought property in south Delphi where he has since lived. His life is measured by almost eighty four years. For the last seven years he has been partially paralyzed, hast Sunday afternoon he quietly passed away.On October 18, 1865, Mr. Gerardmarried Lou ran e Overley. Two of their six children, Charles and Harry, are deceased. Four children B. W. Gerard, of Lafayette; Mrs. JohnMistier. Bernard C. and Edward L.Gerard, with their mother, are living.F'uneral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Rev. It. 0. Kimberlin officiating. Interment in the Pyrmontcemetery.
