Joshua Knight, of Du Quoin, one ofthe privates of the 40th regiment, lately mustered out, passed through an experience which was one of the most remarkable on record in the islands. Knight, in company with others, was scouting for an insurgent command. He fell into a pit which had been studded with spears that were about ten inches long. He was found by his companions, who thought him dead and the spears were pulled from his body. During the ordeal he was calm and murmured not. He survived, losing only the use of his arm.|Oliver P.
