• Alexander Arthur Stevensof Frostburg has been accepted in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as a member of the class of 2014.Stevens is a graduate of Mountain Ridge High School and the son of Jay and Janet Stevens. He isthe grandson of Alexander stevensCarl and Nancy Martens of Frostburg and the late Arthur and Kathryn Stevens of Frostburg.Cadets receive a full tuition scholarship and monthly stipend for a five-year service commitment to the Coast Guard upon graduation. Fewer than 400 appointments are offered annually from a pool of more than 4,000 applicants.Army Reserve Spec. Michael A. Hornyak has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches,armed and unarmed combat and field maneuvers and tactics.Hornyak graduated in 1990 from Southern High School, Oakland, and received a bachelor's degree in 1994 from Frostburg State University.
