“May 30.—I have heard many times of la belle France, but never realized it was so beautiful. Every bit of ground is used to advantage and the shades of green present a very attractive appearance. It is so pretty and peaceful here that it is hard to realize that scenes of desolation are not far away.“Of course the French people are exceedingly kind to us and the French soldiers good comrades. Everything is Interesting. We are at present in. billets. The cows and sheep do not live with the soldiers now. Our stable is quite clean with fresh straw to sleep upon.
