“May 30.—I hare heard many times of la belle France, but never realized it was so beautiful. Every bit ot ground is used to advantage and the shades of green present a very attractive appearance. It is so pretty and peaceful here that it is hard to realize that scenes of desolation are not far away.“Of course the French people are exceedingly hind to us and the French soldiers good comrades. Everything is interesting. We are at present in billets. The cows and sheep do not live with the soldiers now. Our stable is quite clean with fresh straw to sleep upon. The French people are required to furnish these places. We have as yet seen only the country houses, lonar.i
