E. C. Whiddon, Jr.CommissionedBy U. S. NavySAN MARCOS — Elmer C.Whiddon .Jr., instructor in journalism at Southwest Texas State College for the past year, has resigned his position to accept a commission as Lieutenant in the U. S. Army.Whiddon, 25-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Whiddon of Bee-ville, is to report for duty July 16 at New Orleans. Mrs. Whiddon is the daughter of Mrs. Nina Durham of Driscoll.Whiddon, who has been working this summer on the New Braunfels Herald, is a member of the Rotary Club and Jaycees in New Braunfels. and has served as publicity chairman for these organizations.He and his wife, the former Elaine Durham of Driscoll, have a 3-months-old son, Elmer III. They live at 1185 West Mill St., New Braunfels. The Whiddons are members of the New Braunfels Methodist Church.A graduate of A. C. Jones High School in Beeville, Whiddon entered Southwest Texas State College in 1949. He l#ft college in 1951 to enlist in the U. S. Navy, and served as a flying officer through 1955. Part of this time he spent in aircraft carrier service in the South Pacific theater of operations.
