This regiment was organized on the 26th of August, lffil. It claims to have leen engaged in two more buttles than any other Jntantry regiment in the Army of the Potomac, and in three more than any other Pennsylvania regiment. This does not include skirmishes. It is entitled, by order, to thirty-two inscriptions upon its battle-flag. It never lost a color. ColonelRogers is its sixth commander. Colonel John W. McLane was killed at Gaines’ Mill, in 1862, Colonel It. Strong Vincent at Gettysburg, Colonel Campbell, disabled, second Bull Run disaster; Colonel O. S. Woodward lost his right leg at the Wilderness, 1864, Colonel McCoy, honorably discharged. October. 18C4.
