June 28.—LY—The first group of German prisoners of war to be assigned to farm work in this area will begin picking beans and chopping cotton tomorrow on four farms in western Muskogee county.The grorp of 30 from nearby Camp Gruber will work for five days and if the experiment is successful other farmers may contract to use prisoners of war, paying them wages about equivalent to farm labor pay, plus transportation expenses.Col. C. W. Skruggs, in charge of the prisoners, said the Germans would be under army guard while going from one farm to another and while at work. Theywill be returned to Camp Gruber each night.Meanwhile. 18 units of 150 soldiers each from an undisclosed camp moved into the eastern Oklahoma farmlands hit hardest bythe recent floods to aid in rehabilitation work.Shawnee Brown, extension director of Oklahoma A. and M.college, said four of the units areassigned to the Wagoner area; two each to Keota, Spiro and Hyde Park: one each to Mcffeti, Sal lisa w, Vian, Eufaula, Bixby,Skiatook, Nowata and Tahle-quah.
