S. ,Aimy Air Force, had been killed in action in the North African campaign on December 12.Mrs. Brantly told the Sun staff | Saturday that she had received a 'c : letter from her husband three weeks ago in which he had stated ^ that he had received a slight arm j ^ j injury.Immediately preceding the no-; tice of his death word had reached here that Lieut. Brantly had i been decorated by Gen. Jimmie i Doolittle, famous for his historicrvit11! raid on Tokio, with the distinguish- j * ed service medal. j ^Early in the African campaign, j ^ word came back from the Advance j American Air Force Base, that j j. Lieut. Brantly was one of the air- |e men that took part in the daring j ? low- level air attack, Nov. 28, which j t was carried out on Sfax, important c Axis port in Eastern Tunisia. This r raid was led by Major David M. ^ Jones, of Winters, Texas, who was j i also a member of General Doolit- |. tie’s Tokio attacking force. Major , Jones’ Sfax raid was participated i (in by a number of other air offi- lt;leers from Texas.I lt;Lieut. Brantly was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy O. Brantly of Hous- j, ton, formerly of Del Rio, where he i attended school and was captain ! I of the football team. He was asenior student of Sou’hwestem University Georgetown, and was a prominent member of the Pirate j j football team, was a four letter1 j man, and received many athletic e awards. He belonged to the Sports j g Club, and various other campus L_ organizations.He received his commission at” j Ellington Field, Houston, on July ” 3, 1942, and was married on that e date to Miss Melody McCann, dau-d ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Mc-j Cann of Georgetown.Lieut.
