Approximately 40 miles of electric line will supply light and power necessitating the use of some 2.600 poles, 170 transformers and 350 street lighting units.Roads, when completed, will cover about 2 miles of concrete highway, 20 miles of secondary roads and about 6 miles of secondary streets.House 34th Division In Camp Claiborne the 34th Division will be housed. The 34th Division includes National Guardsmen from Iowa, Minnesota and North and South Dakota. However, this is only a small portion of the number of men who will be in training in the State of Louisiana.Recently the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Louisiana's leading newspaper, estimated that $190,000,000 will have been spent in the state before 3941 has gone and that the expenditures will reach $320,000,000 in 3942. After that defense should bring about $130,000,000 per year until the emergency is over. When it is considered that the Louisiana sugar, rice and cotton crops combined have a gross income of only about $80,000,000 annually, it can be seen what “preparedness” means to this state.
