Air Force 'Helical'UShould Be Preservedl\ iUr lt;itn nEditor Journal- 7lt;Some time ago there was a tl comment from thp editor of thpBreckenridge paper regarding th* oner hrautiful and cnstlv “Hellcat airplane on the hark lot of our airport, and now nrai 1y a total wreck It is an cvpsoic to most of u« forrnrr An Forcemen and also all others traveling 210 west.I understand this plane was P Risen the count\ or city as a ( memorial to our bo\ s who sencd in the Army and \ii Force ,!\t the time it was received it was in fine condition with a new 0 motor and flown as far as \le\ s endria to he towed from there to 11 Fergus. It was placed on a corner of the City Hall lot where it was sdmired by hundreds for its beauty and sire And the history of that plane * service to this country in the South Pacific is very impressiveMany of us were glad when it had found a home at the large building at the fair grounds where it was again one of the biggest attractions to both young and oldWhy was It moved from the fair grounds where it pos'iblv could have received some care? Some time ago I wont out to look at the plane and was shocked at the work done by vandals and wreckers. It is outright stealingThe motor and propeller seemed intact, and should be taken out and mounted to be put on display at the fair grounds build ' ing or the historical rooms. jI suggest that the Chamber of Commerce or Historical Society look into it. and possibly some of those who helped wreck it would make a donation. Lets hear from others.Henry L Thompson, i ergui JTaIIi i
