were,Per-vicentry • by lourtar greater achievements thundersthrough the land with an insistence which cannot and which will not be denied! This nation is at war. She has been dealt a deadly and treacherous blow. But out of that blow, overnight, has come something which those who planned the attack upon us little dreamed to see, and are ill prepared to meet! The mists of our national thinking have been swept away! Confusion has been dissolved into determination! We are no longer soldiers, sailors and civilians—we are Americans! Nowhere in our land is the voice of “appeasement” and “compromise” raised. Gone are our petty differences, our “isms” and our fears. Like a cleansing bolt of lightning the Japanese dive bombers which sank our ships and killed our fellow Americans have aroused this nation to a union of untold strength and an implacable determination which will not be denied!Ours, today, is that more perfect union which our forefathers sought. Ours, today, are the blessings of liberty—and our the determination to defend and preserve that liberty come what may!Up until Dec. 7 last the performance of your work and your line achievements were a privilege. On that date the performance of your work and theaccomplishment of much greater, achievements became a duty. jIn the performance of that duty you ' are privileged to play a singularly significant role. At sea your fellow Americans in the uniform of our armed services face the enemy. The weapons in their hands you provide. They can , be no better than the resources of mind and of heart which you put into them. And their quantity as well as their quality is the measure of yourpatriotism. It is indeed a happy circumstancethat I am able to stand here today andAIi v- * it* i v v vs vyMrs. Ernest Johnson and Mrs. Ed Morse and daughter, Jeanette, of Medina visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Dunn, Monday afternoon.Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Vaughn of Cleveland have purchased the home of Mr. and Mrs. Celia Stauffer on Howe road.Mr. and Mrs. Frank Alward of Itoyalton have moved into the Clarence Vaughan home and are building a new home nearby on the property formerly purchased from the A.
