Johnny N.Ward Jr. 27, of Sarasota, was killed in action in Vietnam on Saturday while on combat operations.He was a platoon leader and company commander with Company C., 25th Infantry Division.He leaves his widow, Mrs. Joy Campbell Ward, e1 Sarasota and his parents Sarasota Police Major and Mrs.J.M WardHe was .a 1961 graduate of Sarasota High School where he was active in track, basketball, softball, and wasa member of DeMolay HeArea Blood Bankalso attended Manatee Junior College. -----------—gjpfgWard entered basic combat training in December, 1986 at Ft. Benning, Ga., took his advanced individual training at Ft. Jackson, S. C. and attended officers candidate school at Ft. Benning where he also completed the airborne training course.After completing officers candidate school he was assigned to Ft. Jackson where he was an Army instructor for six months before Ms first tour of duty In Vietnam. He returned to the United States in July, 1968 and was assigned to Ft. Benning as chief of academic records until April. 1970 when he returned to Vietnam.
