Families monitor events nervous- *Andalene Hamilton of Chicago Heights is keeping close tabs on news from the Persian Gulf. Hamilton has three children serving in Operation Desert Storm and another on stand-by with the U.S. military InKym Liebler and Anita PfeiferWhile the U.S. remains glued to television, hungry for whatever news is available from halfway around the world, many area families are especially on the edge of their seats.Those families have loved ones who are engaged in the fighting of Operation Desert Storm, the U.S.-led coalition s battle against Iraq and its occupation of Kuwait.One Chicago Heights family, Andalene and Idell Hamilton of 310 Concord St., has three sons serving in Saudi Arabia and another son on alert in Germany.“For us, it’s four times as likely that one of my brothers won’t come home,” said Darryl Hamilton of Harvey. “It’s all we can think about right now.”Gregory, 31, a staff sergeant for the Marines, left for Saudi Arabia Dec. 10. Anthony, 29, also an Army staff sergeant, was sent to Saudi Arabia in September and Andre, 23, a lance corporal in the Marines, arrived in Saudi Arabia Jan. 16 — Day 1 of the Gulf War. Michael, 32, is a staff sergeant in the Air Force. Based in Germany, Michael is on call and ready to serve if he is summoned to the Persian Gulf.All four graduated from Rich Central High School.“They’re all even-tempered adults,” Andalene said. “I think they would handle any situation to the best of their ability and with a sense of pride for their country.”Speaking strictly from a mother’s point of view, Andalene said she had mixed feelings while watching and hearing the U.S. attack Baghdad Wednesday night.“I held out to the end. I was very optimistic. I really didn’t think there would be a war,” she said Thursday.“Now I’m quite tense and tired. I sat in front of the TV from 6 p.m. until 3 o’clock in the morning.
