MEMORIALThe proposed Negro veterans memorial—for which a drive for funds is nowon—is a doubly worthy project. It willappropriately honor the memory of High Point Negro citizens who gave their livesfor their country. At the same time, itwill fill a real need for a Negro community center.We have been impressed by the large number of Negroes who are making contributions to the project. That should be an added inducement to the white citizens to join in.Employers of those Negro veteranswho are taking an active part in the drive can make a double contribution if they will. Not only can they make a donation but also they can help the drive considerably by giving the drive workers a day’s “time off” to devote to the campaign. The community chest directors have approved the drive and set January as the time. It will be difficult to reach the goal,however, if the workers arc not given aday off to devote to the cause.
