Frank E. Machen Missing in ReichSST. FRANK MACHENTech. Sgt. Frank E. Machen, 24, a radio gunner on a B-17 with the Eighth Air Force, son ol Mr. and Mrs Frank E. Machen, 1432V** Third avenue SE, has been missing in action since Dec 31 in Germany, his parents have been notified by the secretary of war A Franklin graduate, Sgt. Machen attended Coe two years before enlisting in the air force and beginning his training at Santa Ana, Calif. He went overseas last July and renewed acquaintance with an area he had seen several times before, especially during 1936 and 1937, when he visited England and the continent with his parents and his brother, James, fireman (2/c), now stationed with the coast guard in AlaskaSgt. Machen has been awarded the Air Medal with three clusters.
